Drafting and planning

From doing a second attempt and trying to find what layout
I want to do I have started to change my mind on certain things.
I am sure that I want to use Tormented where it is and in the font that it is in, also I am happy with the stars names to be in the font that it is in also as it makes them look professional.
I think that with 'The paranoia will destroy you' I would like to use a type of written writing such as the picture to the right where it says 'Trick 'r Treat'.
Then I have an idea of what I would like to do with the 'From the Director of' and have it in the 'Trash Toys' font that is below. With this font I can use the 'From the director of' with the start of the font that says trash and with the film name I could use the font with the toys so it stands out and looks like the films bigger than it is. I need to try all this stuff out.

Target Audience

I posted a tweet on twitter to ask people what they think about the layout i created and if they thought i used the right fonts and headlines. With the response i got back I think that i am going to leave the fonts how they are however as i thought i am going to change the headlines around to see what works best and to also see what works best with the picture behind making sure that it is not covering anything important up.

Drafting and planning

Based on what I said in recent blogs, I said that I would like to use this layout for my ancillary product which would be a poster. I have no got a picture yet so it isn't the full thing but just the layout. I am not sure if I like the layout and will try different ones in the future to see if the poster can look better by moving the lines around, adding more stuff or getting rid of other things.

Drafting and planning

Me and Caitlin have decided that for our ancillary product we are going to use the quote 'The paranoia will kill you'. It relates to the film as the girl is paranoid making the audience have more knowledge.

I have decided that the fonts I am going to use are 28 days later, headline, trash toys and longtime. I will have to make sure that sir is able to download them to make them look more professional and not have a white background behind them.

Organisation

Me and Caitlin have came to the decision that we are going to call it Tormented.
We have came to this decision because of the target audience response we got back and also it will fit the genre and story line of the movie as she thinks she is getting stalked/tormented by some man.

Target Audience

Me and Caitlin have both posted a tweet on twitter to make sure that we are sure what the audience think is best to call our film. From my target research it shown that the top film title that was chosen was Tormented and this is the same case with Caitlin. This makes us have more of an understanding as its not only one person that has said it, its two.

Drafting and planning

This is just a layout draft of my magazine product. It just shows the basis of what my ideas are. The magazine mast head that I am going to be using is Little White Lies. The Little White Lies magazine has no titles so I thought from looking at their 'The Black Swan Issue' piece I took some ideas from it and thought I could put the film name over the picture. However with this font I would like to change it and make it thinner too. The image that I want in the background is the main character of the girl in a close up shot from her shoulders. I want the mans hand over her mouth but you not seeing the man. I was thinking of having her with contacts and him with dirty hands/fingernails. This suggests that she hasn't been taking her pills which is in the trailer and he seems dangerous.

Organisation

These are the two people that are going to be in my teaser trailer acting as the girl who is getting stalked and the stalker himself. We thought that we could use the boy Samuel Barnacle as he is very tall and has a certain look that would fit for the role. Also Beatrice Dix is being used because she also fits the girl role that can look innocent at the start however with contacts in could look a bit mysterious.

Target audience

I have posted a tweet on twitter to ask what the audience will think is the best name to call my film. I asked for 3 in order so I know if I cannot have one then I can choose the next one that the audience think is best. The ones that were chosen was Tormented, Stalked and Crazed. These all are one word film titles which I was looking for and find more effective.

I have decided that the magazine cover is going to be for Little White lies.

I really like the way the title of the film is over the image and would really like to do something like this. I would like to include a close up image of the main girl character. I think to make it better and more mysterious I would like to do something creative with the man and not have his full image in the photo. Ideas are to maybe have his hands on her shoulder or around her mouth. I thought that with this I could make the finger nails dirty to show that he isn't a pleasant man.

I like the colour effect black and white however I feel with my image that I might need to add colour to the image as if i wanted to use different contact lenses this would show it then.

For my girl character I am going to make her have eye contacts in to show that there's something not right with her. This would be good for the ancillary product as it is going to be a close up shot so can focus on it.

Me and Caitlin are going to be doing this ourselves so we have went on YouTube and searched a tutorial to help us. This tutorial also helps us with the colours that we want as it shows many of them. We have came up with wanting either a really light colour like the white or bright light blue or the dark colour like black. This will be effective for our product as the eyes will stand out the most. It shows that it's psychological genre rather than slasher as there would be more blood/cuts rather than just the effect of the eye.

We are going to try this out before doing it for our final product.

Target Auidence

I have recently posted what fonts I would like to use in my ancillary product but couldn't choose from one so I posted a picture to twitter to get feedback from my target audience.

The first picture shows what font I should choose for my main title of the film and they said the first or second. These fonts are quite similar so I may work with these and see with a draft cover if they work well. I agree with this person and think that the second font might be too similar to the headings on the poster and the last one might be difficult to understand and not bold enough with the photo behind.

The second picture shows what font I should choose for my main title of the film and the response was the first one. The reason was because it looked professional and would be easy to understand. I definitely would like to use the first one for part of my poster where it shows the characters name however might use one of the others underneath for other lines as they seem bolder and
easy to read also. I would also make my final decision about this when doing a draft piece so I can see what looks better.

I find this poster really effective and the main reason is because of the photo. With my photo I have said that I would like to do the eyes different and have she work on there. This relates to that as you can see one eye is normal and one eye isn't. For me doing this it would relate to my character and probably relates to this one also.

I like the image length and would like to have the same sort of image length in my anciallry product as you can see from the shoulders upwards. This could make the character seem more vaunrable if the shoulders/neck area isn't covered.

I like the lighting in the photo as it's dark however also has lightness to it. It seems like the background is black but where the photo is it's lighter making it stand out. I will have to really focus on the lighting for my product as I would have to get it right to make sure it looks like the right genre film .

The title on the poster looks like the fonts I have researched which is '28 days later' and 'trash toys' on dafont.com the title goes with the image as it looks like half of her isn't there and getting blown away and the title doesn't look all there either - relating to what my character will be like which I said. As my target audience says in the blog above that I should use this font I am going to work with it.

Organisation

On the tracker it shows what we are lacking work on and need to do more of to achieve the best. I only have 4 Target Audience posts which is low considering the rest of how many I have done for each other category. To achieve this I am going to post more on social networking sites allowing the audience to have an opinion on my work for me to pick my choices.

Drafting and planning

I have been looking at different fonts I could use for different parts of the Film poster that I am going to be making. For the main title I was thinking something
Bold to get the audiences attention more, however I didn't know if to make it different and have it faded as it relates to the girl having the illness of not being all there. I have took a selection of fonts for www.dafont.com  which will help find out which font I will want to use in my end product. I am going to publish the photos to Twitter to get some feedback from what my target audience thinks.

The firs four fonts are for the main title of the film.

I like the font '28 Days Later' because it is still bold but with an effect, the audience will still be able to see it in front of the photo as it is very chunky. I like the effect of this font as I think it could relate to the film trailer as people won't understand fully what and who the man is relating to the font not all being there.

I like the font 'Franchise' because of how bold and plain it is. Sometimes with horror genre film posters simple writing can be as effective if the photo has got an effect on and stands out. Having something bold over the top would suit this as you wouldn't miss it.

I like the 'Trash Toys' font as one half of it is messed up and the other word is normal. This could go with the girls personality and how a side of her isn't all 'normal' and be effective. For me wanting the man in the picture to be blurred too it would go with this. It is also bold which is what I am looking for.

I like the 'This Corrosion' font as its different from the rest. It could be effective with the photo and make the picture as it would correspond to what the picture is saying. Its still bold as you can see the black but unusual which I like.

The three fonts are used for the other titles in the film poster.

I like the 'Headline' font as you can get a bold and non bold version to it. As I want to include two of the main characters on my poster I have thought I want to set it out like this making it look professional and if I have the surname bold it shows how important and famous they are making it more realistic.

I like the 'Bebas' font as its bold and very close together which is what I want for my Characters names and other titles on there. It will stand out from the photo even when the font size will be low.
I like the font 'Monofonto' as it is also bold but not too bold. This would mean that it couldn't blend in with the main title making it stand out more which is what is needed.
Its very plain and easy to understand when it would be in a small font.

I have made a mind map of different words relating to the genre of the type of horror movie I would like to do.
I am going to look at this with Caitlin and then we can make some ideas and put words together to try and make our final decision on what we would want our film title to be.

After me and Caitlin have thought about 3 different title names I will post a picture on twitter so I will get an idea of what my audience will think is best.

I still yet don't know what layout or type of photo I want to do for magazine anciallry product, this is why I am researching different types of magazines and not specific ones.

I liked this magazine cover because it is creative with the 'Black Swan' title graved onto the skin. This is important because it links with the film and how it is painful for the ballet dancer.
I would want to do something creative like this to make it less boring as there is no headlines / sub headlines so it all focuses on the image.

I like the close up image and how you can see the expression on the characters face. I think with this I would have to use a darker background image to make if look more fearful and it's an image from a horror genre movie.

Drafting and Planning

I made two layouts on paper last week and posted them on a social networking site to see what one people would like most. This one was chosen as it was simple for a teaser trailer and not too much was on the poster (like production blurbs)
IDEA
I have thought of picture ideas that I could do and one is that the picture will be a close up shot of the girl from her shoulders upwards showing her facial expression and making her look vaunrable if she has no top covering her shoulders. Then I want the man behind her however i want his figure blurred so it shows the story line a bit and how he isn't real. I want there to be dark lighting and good make up and editing used and maybe some eye contacts with different colours.

About psychosis | Mind, the mental health charity - help for mental health problems

I have been researching different types of mental illnesses that fits my characters description, the description that she fit was under 'psychotic experiences'. I have researched this to get to know some of the stuff I could do for the end of my trailer as I am planning that soon and to research some of the names so I can think of film titles from them.

From the last magazine that I looked at this is completely different as the other had many cover lines on when this one doesn't have any apart from the main headline. I find this really effective as it shows the importance of the film and how nothing else is on the cover to distract people from them. I partially like how empire is black as it contrasts with the smoky background and stands out. With my magazine I am going to have to make sure that the mast head stands out from the background as it is going to be dark lighting in the background.

If I want my magazine to be Empire I am going to have to make sure that I have a suitable photo as every magazine cover Empire has done the photograph is always in front of it. I am going to have to make sure I will use the right photo for this. You can see with this cover as the right image has been used as like the masthead the actress at the front is wearing all black which contrasts with the background as well making you focus on her her more.

With my magazine I don't think I could do something exactly like this because the background of the image is very effective as its the smoke and fire etc. With my picture I will not be able to create something like this and have it that exciting. Therefore I am thinking of just having a few sub headings on the right or left side of the page and not on both.

I've been looking into magazines that could give me inspiration for some things that I may want to include. This is not a horror magazine as I am not looking at any specific conventions but all of them which have used and picking out what I would like to use.

In my magazine I would not like to use many sub headings as this magazine cover has as I wouldn't want to take much attention away from the main movie on the cover and the picture as I want that to stand out and make an impact.

I like the use of the rule of 3 on the bottom left hand of the cover, making it that simple makes it easy for the audience to read. I would like to use the rule of 3 in my magazine however I would like to make up new film names to be more creative.

The plus sign on the right hand of the cover is a good way to show what else is in the magazine without using words, it makes the readers feel like they are gaining more from the magazine than just the new film, however it does this without taking any attention away from it.

The first sub heading 'The 27 most mind blowing movies ever' is good to use as it doesn't tell you any. The mind blowing matches with the mind blowing issue at the top with colour also. This makes the cover look organised and have a colour scheme making it professional.

I feel like with this magazine the things that I would not like to include is how many sub headings there are. I don't want the issue to be full that it doesn't look as scary as what it could.  As it's not a horror magazine the colours that I would use would be completely different to this using dark lighting in my photo. However I like how this magazine is creative with the  buildings in the mast head and behind as it links to the film. I need to think of creative ideas like this that I could use.

Target Audience

I used the social networking site twitter to get some feedback from the audience about what they think would be a better layout for me ancillary product which is a teaser poster. I had a response telling me which idea they think is better which is
first. This enables me to know what I need to do to fulfill the needs of my target audience making the best possible product I can to fit the genre. I'm going to work on the first idea more making more drafts with pictures and fonts and will be posting again to see another response on what's good and what I will need to work on.
(When clicking on photos the second one appears to be the first)

This photo is from the movie horror poster 'The Ward' . The photo was used because it is a psychological horror  movie about a girl who has multiple personalities and thinks that she is seeing people when really it's all her which gets revealed to you at the end. This fits in to my movie trailer plot as it's about a girl with mental problems.

I like this photo as it shows that effectively with the blurred  effect that the girl has obviously got something wrong with her and isn't all there. This has given me some ideas about my teaser poster. I have thought of ideas I could use from this and they consist of the man who thinks she's being stalker by in the background but not fully clear or it could be that they are not both clear.

Drafting and planning

Me and Caitlin have made a mind map for the ending of our teaser trailer, we just want there to be loads of jump cuts of different scenes meaning that it doesn't give a story line away as it doesn't focus on the actual story line just shows you clips. We came up with things that we could do for these which are typical in horror stories to make it more scary. With all the teaser trailers that I have looked at I have seen that at the end in all of them this is where most of the jump cuts happen so it leads up to the ending where there’s nothing. Some of the ideas we suggested and are going to talk discuss to get the right ending are below which we will sort out very soon.

From the start of researching horror posters to go with films, close ups of the characters face is what I have wanted to do and what I am going to do. I think it's very effective to see all of the features up close picking out there facial expressions, eyes , make up. I like it simple with just a quote. I am going to be drafting some ideas for my ancillary product soon to make sure I am organised. I want to do something clever with my product and maybe have the man in the background blurred showing confusion. I am going to map some ideas and still analyse  products to give me inspiration.

I think that not being able to see the girls neck and having this darkness to the image below contrasts with the face and the writing at the bottom. It makes you see clearly the writing making it easy to read the details. The colour of the writing red it goes with the blood and red eyes that are in the image. This is effective as it makes it seem like danger and carries on with the theme. In my teaser poster I would like to use a maximum of 3 colours running through it as if there's anymore it wouldn't be threatening/scary as it would seem more colourful.

The quote 'God wont save you' and the shadow on the face on the cross is very effective linking together making the poster a little more creative showing an insight to the film that maybe shes possessed, holy etc.

I like the eyes in the image as the editing or contacts have made it look like the girls eyes are bleeding. I have said from the start that I would like to do something with the eyes to make the poster effective however i am going to start needing to think of creative ideas like; two different coloured eyes showing different personalities or have a man in the background of a mid camera shot however have the man blurred showing that he may not really be there.

I would like to use a quote that relates to the film that would be useful so I will have to research some things that relate to that. I find that they don't look that real towards the top of the forehead so I wouldn't want to do anything like this.

I think the blood on her face is effective however i do not like the cracks on her face. I

Drafting and Planning

Me and Caitlin are creating a storyboard of what we have came up with of the film to make sure that it all goes together and that it will be easy for us to follow when filming without confusion. We have created it showing; what's happening, what camera angles being used, who's in the scene, where about is the scene and what effect it has example. Strobe lighting creating disorientation. We will present this in lessons getting feedback for improvements which we can work on.

Target Audience

From research I have done I would like to make the decision that my film is going to be at the certificate of a 15. I have chosen a 15 because with 18 certificate that is when it's at the extreme with blood/thrill of killing etc but in my film this wouldn't happen as it's not a slasher horror. From my teaser trailer I want my target audience to be left with 'When is this going to be out?' While watching it I want them to have a brief explanation and not a full detailed story line as it's a teaser. I want them to be left with the question 'What's going on?' So it leaves them confused wanting to know the answer. For this to happen in my  teaser trailer there needs to be loads of face paced editing and dark lighting for it to have the horror and frightening effect.  Having close up shots and face paced editing will not show the audience full things making me fulfill my target in not letting them know everything   I will have to be clever with sound effects  with Diegetic and Non Diegetic sounds as they are the things that will cause tension. I have found with watching trailers at a 15 certificate they normally have writing which I think is effective and could use to engage my target audience.

Organisation

I have looked on my tracker to see what I have to work on and what I am missing out. I have only done 2 posts about Target Audience so this means that I have to focus on this and include it more. I could do this my figuring out what age I am going to make my film at and know then what type of things to include in the film to fill the criteria. I would also have another look on surgery monkey to see if anything else has been answered on there to know.

Organisation

I Have been thinking about what sort of characters I want in my teaser trailer and what I want them to look like. I want to try and find a male that looks like the Actor Jake Gyllenhaal. I think he has the typical Middle Aged man with facial hair and would suit someone with the same style like this would suit the role perfectly for my trailer. The man could not be short as we are trying to find someone intimidating and fearful.

The girl that I want to take part will be in her teens around 17/18. She will also look like a typical teenage girl, a sweet one. I would not want my actress to have tattoos or anything to show a sign of confidence and lack of fear as in the trailer we have to make sure that she finds everything scary and wouldn't just be bothered about anything that's happening. I would like to use someone like Sarah Hyland as she has a sweet and innocent look.

Drafting and planning

Caitlin and I have taken photos of the places that are going to be most effective and scary in the film that we have already and planned out, these two places are where you are firstly introduced to the man.

This is where the scene where the girl is going to be standing and the man appears in the background of the door and this is when we are first introduced to the character. Me and Caitlin have chosen these doors in the house because you can use a good wide shot when you can get both characters in the shot as if it was just a single back door then we would just have to use a close up shot for to see the man. We thought doing this scene would make it more effective as if the door was opened and there's been noises in the house the audience will think hes already in there so him just popping up we have tried to make it more jumpy

The second door was used because of the latch as you can see in the photo. We thought this would be useful as it gives tension to the man getting nearer to her when she cant unlock it to try and get away from the house. It shows how she already has an idea of the man is as if it was an ordinary one she would be on the phone however she already knows shes being tracked/hunted.

Organisation

Myself and Caitlin have made a detailed plot for my horror teaser trailer as I thought doing this before doing a story board would help me and make it easier for me to understand.

Beginning - There is an establishing shot of the house where my trailer is going to be set on the night time, With this shot I would try to block out any other houses near by to make the girl feel more alone later on in the trailer when you get introduced into the man.
After  this I would want an over the shoulder shot to show of the girl looking in mirror and down at her tablets being given to her as you can see her trying to put them down the drain. She then looks up and sees a man behind her quickly and then when she blinks he has gone.

We are going to set the first shot in a bathroom as it would make the girl seem more vulnerable. There is then a long shot being used at the same level of the girl in the bath so you can just see her head. As the camera moves above her she goes under the water.
After this there would then be a close up shot being used to show her come quickly up out of the water when she hears a noise.
When shes up there's a silence and extreme close up to the bath tap dripping to cause tension. There's a extreme close up of the girls face when she starts to hear other noises like creaking. This is when there's fast pace editing of the girl grabbing her stuff/getting a towel on.

There dripping on off her hair just standing still making the silence feel more dramatic and a close up to the drips leading into a black out. With the black out to another scene.
Coming out of the door its all blurred having a flashback to the bathroom from her tipping the tablets down showing how shes got something wrong with her. She goes to check downstairs with a dolly camera following her. When shes at the bottom the camera shows a wide shot showing how the door is open from a far. She then she runs to close it and turns away from it with a medium close up having a relief grin/deep breath. As shes that way there's jump cuts of the man behind and then we see him pop up behind her in the dark without her knowing. As she takes some steps away the man tries to open it she shut and locks it and starts running out towards the front door. The character scrambles to the front door in an attempt to escape the house however the latches are on the door so the character is in a panic and has difficulty getting out and this can be shown with a long shot. A pan shot shows the girl looking back and then a close up of the lock again and as she looks a second time with a pan view the man then appears in the door way of the living room with low key lighting to make it more fearful.

We are going to be using a strobe lighting for when there is close ups of the mans body/objects as it represents disorientation and chaos. The fast pace editing is then going to show close up shots of his boots, hands, objects leading up then to his face so we finally get to meet the character. This is when the film will get interesting and terror will start to kick in.

The link above shows the house I am going to be using for my horror teaser trailer, its also shown below. However with the link to Google Maps its shows you the area and more of its surroundings as I have cropped the image.

The picture below is taken from a establishing shot in the  film 'Amityville: The Awakening' that is going to be released in 2015. This is a typical big house
where loads of creepy and spooky things can happen in. With a big house it makes it better as
there will be many exciting scenes that can happen for example; hiding in cupboards,
creaking of steps, no houses really near to make a bigger effect of the victim being alone.

The house that I am using (First image) does not look that scary and neither does the second however with dark lighting it will look like a house of terror.
The picture below is the same house that's set in the film 'Amityville: The Awakening' showing how you can make the ordinary house look scary.
