The masthead is pretty simple, the use of the colour black contrasts well with the jokers face as it makes them both stand out. 'The dark knight' been placed under the masthead in black also contrasts well against the jokers face showing how its the most important thing as none of the other writing is in the colour black.

The green effect around the masthead fits in well with the colour scheme. It fits in with the pun and the puff (skyline) promoting how there is 2 covers to collect. The pun used is 'Summer just got serious' and this fits in with the Jokers famous slogan 'Why so serious?' this will make all the batman fans laugh.

I feel like even though The Dark Knight film is not a horror and that is the genre that i'm doing, that the close up shot of the Joker looks quite evil and scary. His bright face draws the audience in and makes the whole image stand out focusing on him. I previously posted a picture of make up I liked showing the girls with black make up around there eyes which is used in this magazine cover which is the key thing to why i think it looks scary.

The 'Clint makes our day' also stands out a bit as you can see from the colour scheme, however it does not over shine the image of the Joker making it clear that its the most important thing.

At the bottom of the magazine you can see that there is other articles about news, celebrity gossip and other movies. This shows how it is a multimedia magazine. The plus sign highlights the fact that The Dark Knight is the main focus of the magazine.

The magazine has its other conventions like the bar code, magazine price and date is all on there to make it look professional and know when its released and the price for key information.

Drafting and Planning

I have to figure out what type of horror movie I am doing, so i will research into them and find out which one I think is most interesting to do.

                                                                                   Action horror
This is a film with intrusion of evil or something to do with supernatural with things like gun fights in etc.. The common things that are included in these films are zombies, demons, vampires and vicious animals. Types of these films are Dawn of the dead or resident evil.

Comedy horror
This combines horror and comedy together, its where there is still killing and murders just like action however they do it in a funny way. Examples of this is Scary movie and Shaun of the dead.

Slasher horror
These types of horrors normal involve a lot of violence in it to do with a serial killer or psychopathic. Maybe a stalker going on a spree and killing loads of victims for no reason. There is usually a great deal of weapons in these movies not just fist fighting like action would be. They are used for mystery and suspense which is what i would like to include in my teaser trailer. Examples of this are Prom night and Psycho.

Physiological horror
Mainly supernatural things that go on like stuff like possession and exorcism. It has a lot to do with the main characters and their belief and fears. There are many examples of these as they are getting more popular. Films like paranormal activity, the ring and exorcist are all part of it.
The two main genres of horror movies that I am interested in is Physiological horror and slasher horror. These I think from what I have researched with mise - en - scene and editing techniques etc. I think that this is the one i would be mos interested in working on and making a good teaser horror trailer. Sometimes they mix like the trailer i analysed had both which is a similar product to which I would want to do.

After looking into all of these types of Horror's I have swayed towards doing Physiological horror as i think you can work with it and have many ideas for different story lines.

I really like this face make up for my teaser trailer, I would like to use this in my trailer as I think it will make it more scarier. Its effective and i mainly like the pale face and dark eyes as it will draw more attention to the eyes. I will have to do research on how to make it look professional so it will look real in my teaser trailer.

Id like to have a close up of makeup like this on my poster.

The trailer starts off with a fade in which brings us to the first shot, this is used so its not just a cut shot for each one but there is something different to it. It opens with a establishing shot of the house to show where the scene/film is going to be taking place. It gives the impact that it is a normal family who we are going to be watching as there isn't anything different or unusual about the house.

Non Diegetic sound is being played at the start of the teaser trailer until the two main characters are in the room, the music is ordinary which makes us feel like this is a typical family who have no major problems.

You get introduced to the house with a wide shot showing whats in the room working out what the theme of the story is. You can see that by the room and the bump how she is expecting a baby. This associates with the story line of why Annabelle is being brought into the house.

Point of view shot when Annabelle is getting picked up showing the main focus of what/who she is dragging the audiences attention just to her.

Putting Annabelle on the self with the others seeing it using the over the shoulder shot and using the Diegetic sound of the voice 'You know how long I've been looking' and 'she fits right in' So you know that Annabelle hasn't been randomly placed in the house she has a reason of being there with the other dolls for show.

The sound changes when the screen goes blank to black after we have been introduced to Annabelle this shows how you know how something is going to wrong and how now this is where it will start to kick in and get scary.

It shows the comparison to the establishing shot in the morning and the establishing shot on the evening and how the light effects what you feel. You now not only see there house but another one also showing how the scene is going to take place in all that space. It makes you feel uneasy as now you know that something is about to happen.

There is a two shot of the couple in bed showing how they are asleep and there is no bother, its slowly goes into a wide shot making you see out the window. This causes tension for the audience and more of an effect how the camera work is moving slowly as it feels like something is going to pop up keeping the viewers on their toes. There is a close up shot used after this to make it clear and more scarier of what is happening and to just focus on that and nothing around. The effect of the blood splattering out onto the window gives a shock to the audience making them jump fulfilling what a teaser trailer should do. Also another effect that is used is when the woman sits up it all goes blank again. This makes the audience confused as we don't know if shes dreaming or if it is real?

The sound that's used and some effects are vital in this teaser trailer and will be vital in mine. When the woman says 'I like your dolls' instantly in the voice she does our reaction is fear. There is a sound effect after which is effective as it makes us jump as we don't know that someone is there. When this occurs we see a medium shot of a woman so we can see how its relating to what she says as shes holding a doll.

Wide shots are used a lot in this teaser trailer as it creates tension as we can see what the characters can't see. There's a wide shot where you can see the villain appear behind the woman, this makes us jump creating suspense and questions like 'Is she going to survive as there's two against one?' 'What about the baby?' 'Is her husband going to get there in time?' It makes you feel afraid that something is going to happen that you don't want to. The use of the black screen after this happens makes it what a teaser trailer is meant to be like as its not giving to much away but is effective.

The fighting/struggling action is only on for 5 seconds so it doesn't give a lot away just close up images of the characters and objects with flashing images making it harder to see but more effective as everything looks so much more scarier.

The zooming at the end of the teaser trailer to Annabelle goes well with the non diegetic music as when its getting closer the music gets more serious and deeper working well together to make the audience more worried.

The text goes well with everything as it explains about Annabelle and has a story line to it promoting the other film 'the conjuring' making sure that you have to watch that before you watch this making the most important things in the sentence in bold.

The ending of when the blood drips down to Annabelle's eye you know that from there that is when she turns evil. This is very effective as it seems like everything is pulled back and you are just focusing on the blood and the eye of the doll as it goes into a extreme close up.

At the end you can hear the music of a babies toy as the teaser trailer is just left there, giving you no clue of what has happened with the main characters leaving questions and thoughts but not so much making you confused. This would make the audience want to go and watch the film more for answers to those questions.

What i liked? The main things that i personally liked in the trailer is the use of wide shots, i think they are important as its a good way to make the audience scared as you can make things pop up in the background etc. I also like the sound effects of Non diegetic and diegetic as i think when scary music needed to be played it was to make it more mysterious and when the tone of voices needed to be changed and the villain spoke it created a fearful atmosphere. I like the flashing images as it gives away some stuff of whats happening but not to much so I would like to use these things in my trailer as they are the best parts for me.

Drafting and Planning

Mise en scene means everything that is in the scene and what's been placed in there to set and go along with what's going on. There are six main elements to mise en scene that I will have to think about as relevant to my teaser trailer genre 'horror'.

Setting - the location of the teaser trailer will have to be somewhere that fits horror and will be relevant. I would think of having my trailer in a house/scary park as it will set the scene with creaky floors and thudding up the stairs causing tension as about to what was to happen. If I was to have it in a beach it wouldn't suit it at all but would for a genre like 'Rom-Com'

Props - having the right props is essential to my teaser trailer as it will make the audience understand what the genre is. For example using things like ropes, knives, fake blood to make it clear what the genre is making the audience scared as with these sort of props it would make them think and be scared.

Facial expressions/Body language - this is used to show how a character is feeling, for my genre I have an advantage as the victim will be making loads of facial expressions showing fear while the villain will just have a moody look. This will show there relationship and make it clear who is playing what role.

Make up/ costume/hair - all these will show what the character is like, there personality and what they think about themselves. I would want in my trailer for my victim to just be normal and not stand out, your average person with no weird clothing just normal.

Lighting - lighting is key for my genre as a horror teaser trailer  as we would not want bright lighting as it wouldn't fit the genre, we would want dull lighting making the film more scarier and setting a good scene as it will be causing mystery.

Positioning - positioning of the camera can draw attention to objects or characters, you can use this to show relationships between the characters and objects for example villain and knife.

Director - Mike Flanagan
Genre - Horror
Plot - A brother and sister try to prove their parents' murders were the act of a sinister supernatural force

Shot - this is a close up shot showing the main characters face. It shows clearly how there are hands covering her eyes showing how it's relating to the quote 'you see what it wants you to see' so you get an idea of why the hands are there and how it is not just random.

Colour - the colours are this are very normal nothing too bright or too dull, this shows how the main characters are just ordinary and how there isn't no monsters, it isn't that type of horror. The clue of all the other writing is plain white so you are just able to see it from the background. It is a very plain teaser poster however it's effective how then all the focus is on the hands.

Lighting - there is brighter lightening used on the outside of her face where the hands are drawing attention to them where in other places like her neck and head there is quite shadowy lighting showing how the hands are the most important thing.

Conventions-
-Film title is in bold from everything else making that be the main thing you look at to do with the writing
-Includes at the top 'the producer of paranormal activity and insidious' making the audience know what te of film it is and with the other two having good success trying to promote this film
-Having the quote 'You see what it wants you to see' relating to the picture so people don't get confused wanting the audience to go and watch the trailer to find out more
-Plain writing making the picture stand out, no special font
-Having the photo so close up shows how they wanted you to notice the hands on the eyes making it the main focus

Drafting and Planning

Editing is what makes a film a film, the technology combines the frames for the teaser trailer to flow making it vital for me to make my editing skills on point to make sure there is no overflows of different scenes etc. Here are some of the editing techniques that I am going to be using to make my teaser trailer:

Jump cut - This is going to be one of the main editing techniques I will want to use in my teaser trailer, it's a tight cut from different scenes. I could use this to show different horror shots such as close up to blood to an extreme close up of villain making the audience scared.

Shot reverse shot - This is used in every single film as its used when two people have a conversation so you would see one shot cut to the next one then go back to the first one. This could be used to show talking in my teaser trailer to create tension with the two characters.

Dissolve - Dissolve is a gradual transition from one image to another I could use this in my teaser trailer dissolving one scene of the victim to another of the villain to show how they are connected.

Fade out - Where at the end of the scene the lighting goes duller and goes onto a blank colour normally black, I could use this at the end of my teaser trailer to try and make there be more suspense
Straight cut - Simple editing where another frame changes into another one quickly leaving the teaser trailer running smoothly. I could use this to show a establishing shot into a long shot of main character/wide shot.

Director - Adam Wingard
Genre - Horror
PlotWhen a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped...until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Shot - this type of shot is a close up to show what the plot of the movie is ... People in masks. It gives you an insight to what they look like with a dark effect making it look even more frightening.

Colour - the colours are very dark that's used except for the mask which is the brightest this makes it stand out showing that it is a important prop in 'mise en scene' to the film. The simple colours used white/black/dark grey show how this isn't a Rom-Com or action but how it's a horror. The way the letters are in white makes them stand out from the dark background making it easier to read. The red on the mask indicates blood so you can already tell that the film is going to be scary and have frightening scenes.

Lighting - the lighting mainly focuses on the top of the mask as that's where it's aimed at the most as it making it the main focus to the picture.

Conventions:
-Main image is the focus of the poster, stands out
-Film title in bold to know what it is
-Quote 'did you remember to lock your door?' Giving a tease as to something about a house giving away it's setting. Having it smaller so people know it's not the title but making the two sentences go together.
-The font writing is like it has been written which goes with the effect of the picture as there's lots of scratches.

Drafting and Planning

Sound is going to be a great part of my teaser trailer as I am going to need it to create things like tension and suspense to keep the audience engaged whilst watching it. This can be done by Diegetic and Non Diegetic sounds. Here are my definitions and examples of why it is important:

DiegeticSound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film, voice of characters or objects in the story. For example a scream of someone or creaky floorboards so it makes everything more dramatic and scary.

Non DiegeticSound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action, it's represented as a sound outside the story place which are like sound effects, mood music and narrators commentary. For example a scary children's rhyme in the background of a swing swinging slowly in the dark. It would create suspense.

I would like to use both of these ad I think they would make my teaser trailer a whole lot better as everything will be more dramatic and scarier.

Camera Work

Establishing shot
This is a establishing shot used in the film 'The Woman In Black.' A establishing shot is used to show the audience the where the scene/action is going to be taking place.  Having this as a establishing shot helps
keep the audience on edge. I'm going to research the best establishing shots used for horrors so i get ideas for mine and then can relate back to my research when creating my story board.

Close up
A close up shot mainly focuses on the persons (villain) Its effective as it highlights how afraid the character is of the villain. I think that with my teaser trailer it is best to use close up shots but not only on the murders ect. face but on things like the weapons/blood etc. to make it seem for dramatic as it associates with the killer eventually.

Extreme Close up
A extreme close up shot is used to show/reveal a persons emotion. This shows how the woman is looking around showing how shes anxious creating tension for the audience. I will insure that i will use this as it shows fear but wont give away too much of the plot.
Long shot
A long shot shows the whole person, it shows off the costumer area is mise en scene. I could use this in my teaser trailer if my villain or victim was to have a certain prop/costume. If you didn't want to reveal too much of the surroundings you would use this instead of wide shot.

Low angle
This shot automatically gives power to the main subject, it makes the audience feel like the person you can see has power and is looking down on the other character in the story. If i used this in my teaser trailer it would make the audience know who's the bad guy and in control.

Wide shot

A wide shot shows the subject in the frame and its surroundings, In this shot a wide shot is used for the audience to see the door creating suspense that you are going to see something come in/ walk past.
